FUN and FABULOUS drive up to Paihia! We had tons of fun on the drive up, with a few stops along the way to enjoy the scenery! Including a beautiful walk along the beach at Waipaipai. There are so many interesting things to see and do here, it's hard to choose! Shenan seemed to think that it was such a long drive to Paihia.... guess he needs to take a road trip across Canada sometime soon. lol then he'll understand what LONG DRIVE means. Oh, and btw. Anyone who drives in NZ is insane. They all drive crazy. And they sure do love their traffic circles (sorry... roundabouts). Checked into a hotel that we got a really cheap rate at. Not knowing what to expect, it's absolutely stunning. Oh, did I mention that we open up our patio door, and we can walk about a total of 25 steps and be standing in the ocean? Because that part kinda rocks. And by kinda, I mean it's PRETTIER THAN ANY RESORT I'VE EVER BEEN TO. It's so amazing in fact, that we booked in for an additional 2 nights. I tell you, sitting on the patio, sipping wine while I get a foot massage from my gorgeous boyfriend.... Bliss.

Today we awoke early, just to have a lazy day walking about Paihia, having coffee, and enjoying ourselves. Mostly because the rain was a torrential DOWNPOUR. Absolutely didn't dampen our spirits like it did our hoodies. We went to Waitangi Treaty House, where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. (The treaty between the British and the Maori). What an incredible place. We watched a presentation of traditional song, dance and games, where I got to hone my skills at the Poi, and Chopz got to "learn" the haka. LMAO!! Pretty cool. And the Waitangi Wharenui was one of the most beautiful places I've been in. The Maori culture is so deep and spiritual, it rivals anything I've ever seen. And let me tell you, are they obsessed with carving their statues with their tongues and penises hanging out! Quite... ahem... intimidating to say the least! But incredibly beautiful and powerful.

Treated ourselves to a massive seafood feast tonight, which was HEAVEN! So now, with a belly full of oysters, prawns, mussels, scallops, fish and shrimp... OH did I mention that their bugs are as big as baseballs here?? Because I saw something that looked like a spindly bird, hanging out in the hallway of the hotel today, asked Shenan what it was... after he stepped on it, he informed me that it was a BLOODY MOSQUITO!!! A MOSQUITO!!! :-O WWWWwwwwwhat?? So apparently, if I get carried off to the middle of the ocean to be feasted upon, it's not from a kea, or a seagull, or a weta even. It'll probably be from a STUPID BLOODY MASSIVE GINORMOUS FLESH EATING, AMBER KILLING, CAR CARRYING MOSQUITO WITH THE WINGSPAN OF A BOEING. Bloody hell.

Until next time, Arohanui!!!
