After over a year of anticipation it is almost here. On Saturday I will start my journey to Vietnam. It seems like I have been planning this trip for so long that it would never come. But at this time next week I will be in warm Vietnam. I have been avoided the realization that I will be leaving the country with no family or close friends for weeks but today, leaving Augie, I was faced with the reality that I am leaving my favorite people in the world! But, I am comforted knowing they will all be waiting for me when I arrive back in March and the anticipation of new friends to be made on my trip. I have gotten to know a lot of the students going on the trip through five weeks of class and am looking forward to getting to know these amazing people even more.
Now that I am back home again the real preparation begins. I have 44 pounds to pack, 2 papers to write, and 2 books to read before I leave Saturday (I might be a little bit of a procrastinator). It seems impossible to pack for 5 1/2 weeks in 44 pounds but I apparently have no choice. This week will be full of packing and homework, two of my favorite things HA! I am nervous of how different the culture of Vietnam is from the U.S. and am having a hard time deciding what will be appropriate to wear. If worst come to worst I can do some major shopping when I get to Vietnam!!
I don't know who will read this blog, but am more writing it for myself. This is the bravest thing I have done so far in my life and I want to be able to look back and read these entries and relive the amazing times to come. I am stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something I never thought I could do.
For those of you who do read this I will warn you of a few things. First, I obviously did not pay attention in Spelling and Typing class because I am not the best in either subject. So, sorry for the misspellings that Spell check misses. Second, I also ramble, not only when I speak, but when I type. I like not knowing where I am going in this blog and then being surprised at the end, even though it might now make perfect sense. Third, I have no idea how often I will be able to update this since Internet is not widely available and I will not be bringing my computer. My plan is to keep a written journal daily and then add those thoughts here when I have the chance.
Well, the time has come and I am ready to start a life adventure. I better get reading, writing, and packing or I might miss the plane! Next time I write I will be in Vietnam!!!!!!
Love, Anna
