Again still backlogging, but i wanted to split things up so we had more pins on the map... oh the little things... kinda like the stamps in the passport book.
Anyway, so the full day we had in naples we planned to chek out pompei. We woke up pretty early, went to the train station and made our way to pompei, or so we thought. We learned quikly that the signas at the train station in naples were not very clear. I think we walked around aimlessly for about an hour trying to figure out which platform we were to be on for the #2 metro. We finally asked and found out it was naturally on platform 3. All the signs for the metro pointed to just about everywhere but platform 3 and disappeared when it was really important. We found out way none the less and went to pompei.
It was pretty coool there. HOT, but neat none the less. The whole town was distroyed from the volcanoe, and it was so well preserved. I really liked roaming around in there. We didnt stay the entire day... after lunch we decided that we were bored of it all and wanted to check out sorrento (a city on the amalfi coast that makes limonchella). It is a beautiful city, just on the water. the water was clear and full of fish. We hung out there, for a couple of hours, then decided to head back to the hostel since we had a very early morning full of travel the next day.
So we went back, and on our way up we met some canadian girls. They asked us if we were staying in the hostel. We said yeah, and they resonded with, "how can you stay there... it is discusting and smells horrible." they were on their way to find new accomodations. We reccommended sorrento to them since both kristen and I really liked the place so much. We then popped into the hostel and went down to the warf for some dinner. I had some pesto pasta that I had been craving for a few days. Yummy
After dinner (about 11 at night) we went back to crash. We had an early morning of travel back to rome, then to ancona, then to croatia. WOO HOO!

on the smelly move
glad you made it to pompei. I liked seeing how bodies had been preserved in the ash of the volcano. it was also interesting to see the ancient 'sewage system'. The drawings on the walls were amazing. i was amazed to learn that all those round columns we see in ancient structures are actually bricks...amazing...human ingenuity! Hope you have a much nicer place to stay on the next leg of your trip
