Big Bend Naitional Park is in remote southwest Texas - NOT close to anything. A full day's drive from El Paso got me there just in time for a good's nite rest at the Park Lodge - pictured on the right with fog rolling in. The Park is a full 7-10 hour drive from Austin or San Antonio - the closest 'civilization'.
One's reward for driving to such a remote destination? Incredible hikes & views in this park combining the Rio Grande River set amidst mid-sized mountains overlooking Mexico. These pictures from the Windows (about 5 miles with 2000 feet elevation gain) and Rio Grande overlook trails
Finally the capstone hike is the South Rim Trail which looks across into Mexico! This is an all day affair covering 14 miles and gaining 2500 feet in elevation. Below are some pictures and a video clip of this tremendous hike.
