We landed in Dublin last night and took a cab to our downtown hotel. (Holiday Inn City Center). It was raining when we landed and the taxi driver told us to expect more of the same the entire week.

We started our day (in a light rain) with one of the hop-on/hop-off bus tours, which was recommended to us by another travelpod traveler. This was an excellent way to get ourselves familiar with the city, and to get around to everything we wanted to see. There are a couple, and we chose "City Tour", a good choice at a lower price than gray line.

First stop - The Guinness Storehouse / Brewery. Wow. It was good to visit the mother ship, where all things Guinness were born. The tour was more centered around the beer making process, which was interesting, but I was hoping for a little bit on the Guinness products role in Irish society and history. Nevertheless, it was a really cool place to be, and the little taste in the lab, followed by the 2 pints in the gravity bar, was perhaps the best Guinness I have ever tasted. If you tour Dublin, you must see this place.

Later in the evening, Laura and I wandered into town and enjoyed a pint in a neighborhood pub, where groups of locals had collected to play cards and watch football (soccer). It was a really cool experience. Even later, we stumbled back to the hotel with fish n' chips wrapped in newspaper, awoke the boys, and made them stand and sing for Ireland. -- Oh, right, that last part didn't really happen, or at least not by us.

The rest of Dublin is nice, the churches are beautiful and the people are very nice. I am a little worried about driving (left side of the road), but we'll cross that bridge (or fall off of it in a fiery crash) tomorrow...
