The Ferry from Penang to Langkawi provided my first experience with the Asian sun. Not that it was raining before, it was just real nice and sunny, blue skies and all for the boat ride. After arriving, I nearly succombed to the heat after the cabbie dropped me off in a "central location" near the beach. Turns out, it was central if you were into $200 a night rooms. After another short although unnecessary cab, I was dropped off in Pantia (beach) Cenang. The first person I met, a friendly woman donning a black (uugh, how and why, with the heat and all) full faced burka (just a tiny eye slot), informed me that all the rooms were taken. Well then, guess I'm screwed. Turns out it was a figure of speech. Most were sold. There were till rooms that came with toxic mold free of charge. Paid extra for an ac, shut it off at midnight after waking weazing, not too mention the family, of like 7, they put next to me. And you know what else, yes, I'm not through bitching, it rained all night. I know, because I layed awake listening. Poor freakin me.
Really though, Langkawi is nice, more of a family vacation spot for Malaysians, and yes, the rain stopped and the sun was out (enough for my white ass) by Noon. Met and mingled with the first westerners, and also a few locals (Indonesians?) Ace (Like AC/DC as he says upon intro) and Arnie.
Well, think I've got my base tan started! Hope I did not push it too far(with the sun). Guess I'll find out later tonight or tomorrow!
I think I'll go to Thailand in the morning. Well, off for some chow!
