It is 7:30 in the morning and I'm tossing around in bed as my sleep is being interrupted by a lot of voices just outside my hotel room.  I don't think much of it as the noise dies down,  as I drift off back to sleep, around 8:00am a loud bang echos through the city centre of Milan and makes me and the rest of the family jump out bed.  When I run up to the window to see what's going on, there are hundreds of people running down the main street of Milan, looks like a marathon has started.  After our unexpected wake up call, we get ourselves organised and start off our day with a hearty Italian breakfast just outside our of our hotel.  Our good luck with the weather has finally ended, as cloudy with showers was forecasted, top of 13 degrees.  There was no rain yet, so we decide to see as much as we can while it's dry.  We start off with the Cathedral Duomo again, as it is closest to our hotel and turn right into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, a 18th Century Arcade full of restaurants and high end stores.  The Galleria leads us to Piazza della Scala where we find a statue dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci.  We decide to get some delicious gelati and head up the famous shopping strip of Alesandro Manzoni until with come across a 11 century gate to the city.  The gate known as Archi di Porta Nuova, was the only part of the main wall surrounding the city that has been retain and joined to new modern buildings.   We continue walking the streets and admire the history and charm of the Milan buildings and cobbled streets.  The last main sight we see before the rain comes down is Castello Storzesco, a castle built in the 14th century with paintings of Leonardo Da Vinci.  We stop for a late lunch at around 3pm and enjoy another great meal, the rain has started at steady pace and there are people everywhere selling umbrellas, how convenient I thought.  Before heading off back to the hotel for a well deserved rest, we do a little shopping along the main strip of Via Dante and Vittorio Emanuelle II.
