Today was to be a short day in terms of mileage so we had a lie in and didn't hit the road until 9am.  A 30 mile ride, the last three of which was gravel, brought us to the ghost town of Brodie which was part of the California gold rush in the mid 1800's.

We spent at least an hour and a half wandering around the town, talking to the guides and generally just taking it easy.  Then after a quick lunch in Lee Vining we set off to Lone Pine via Benton and Bishop.  Highwat 120 to Benton was a cracking road, but the 395 down to here was just a straight dual carraigeway, but at least we are nicely placed for tomorrow's ride.

Today saw us drop from 8000ft ASL to about 3500ft here and after the lovely cool temperatures of Yosemite yesterday we are back up into 30C +.  I'm not a fan of hot weather unlike Mandy, Natasha & Nick, but I am coping better than I thought I would.  Can't ever see myself sunbathing though.

A 5am start is scheduled for tomorrow so that we can be through Death Valley before the strongest heat of the day and all being well we should run into Vegas pretty early in the afternoon.
