What a day. I am exhausted- running on three hours of sleep right now- I am going to bed as soon as I am done writing about today.
We got to Vienna just fine- I slept for about 3 hours on the first train and stayed up and read on the second train. I really wanted to sleep, but Nathan hadn't slept at all, and so I let him sleep while I kept an eye on all of our stuff. We got in around 6 and then freshened, ate breakfast and started the day. It's been a along but enjoyable day.
We began in Vienna by touring the Schöenbrunn Palace- this was Franz Joseph's palace of the Hapsburg dynasty. We had a really neat listening tour of the castle- the whole area was incredible and so beautiful. All the rooms were fully decorated and a lot of them had the original décor. We walked around the Christmas market and the palace grounds. This area would be absolutely beautiful in the spring or summer when it is warmer outside. We went back to the Old Square and planned the rest of the day.
We decided to do an opera tour and the House of Music. The House of Music was amazing. It was a museum all about music and completely interactive. I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun playing around. We spent like three hours in there going through all the exhibits and playing around. Afterwards, we went to a little bakery and got lunch. We went and did the Opera House tour. This was a lot of fun and interesting- the theater was so pretty and there was a huge crystal chandelier in the middle which was awesome. They were setting up for a performance that evening which was also really neat to see. We walked around the city some more and got hot chocolate again. That is our thing to do- it is nice and relaxing. We went to a city park and walked around there and then rode a metro to the end of the line, and then went back into the city. We went to a lot of odd clothing shops and then went to the train station to head to Florence.
It was a long day but I enjoyed Vienna and am looking forward to Florence and sleep!
