Ok, well I said I would write a blog, so here goes. I will try to keep it interesting and short. When there's something interesting to take photos of, rather than the chaos of my packing, I’ll share one or two of the better ones.
This time in two weeks we will be…only a few days and it will be 'this time next week’, then this time tomorrow until…this time last week. Such is life.
So many lists, that’s my way, lists and spreadsheets and folders with copies of the lists and spreadsheets. Lists to use and take with us, and lists to leave behind. Making sure we have done what needs to be done at work. Feeling guilty about going – but not enough to stay home.
Who: Derek and Anna, on their own for five weeks. This has not ever happened before, not in over 43 years together. There has always been other people, kids, jobs. It will be interesting.
When: from 11 April to 15 May 2011.
Where: to Europe, leaving 11 May 2011 Melbourne to Sydney (overnight stay). We fly out of Sydney at 7:35am, heading for Hong Kong where we will be hanging around the airport for more hours than I care to consider at the moment. I’m thinking that might be a time to add to the blog, or send some emails. Hopefully some light weight, useful bargains.
We will stay in Amsterdam two nights, pick up a hire car and head off to spend several days with family in three different parts of The Netherlands, the country of my birth, lovely.
Bruges will be our next stop, and some time in rural France and then to Paris for a short two days.
We fly from Paris to Glasgow, where will head to the highlands by train, get another hire car and drive south to England with some time with Derek’s lovely Aunty Joyce, who lives in Blackpool. So much to see and not sure what is possible.
How: Light, we are determined to travel light, one small to medium suitcase each and a back pack each. Two bad backs mean no heavy bags.
What: My little notebook computer will come along, for blogging, emailing, storing photos, skypeing home and other sundry duties. We will take one phone, and buy local prepaid sim cards for phone contact. In the next few days I will pick up my new ‘toy’ and eReader. I cannot travel to the next suburb without a book, and I cannot leave them behind, so this seems a good alternative. We will both have cameras and I am sure most of the artistic ones will be Derek’s and if I manage anything worth putting up you can be sure I will let you know it is mine. And of course, to go with all this technology is the barrage of chargers and batteries.
