Slept in until 8:30 – hurray! Breakfast at coffee place – nummy Macauan pastry with chilies. Then to "ruins" of St. Paul's … not sure why they seem to put “ruins” in quotes … must not consider it a ruin but fully dismantled, except the façade. Is strange way the façade just stands by itself. Crypt.

Macau Museum. Liked intro with convergence: writing, philosophy, science and technology, religion, exploration/contact. Model of caravel, cross-section. 80% scale street scene.

Walk around fort. Feet already tired.

Down hill; head out to find lighthouse and chapel. Lots of walking streets and steps. Find old church with large graveyard.

Walk up unmarked steps. Fix fountain, then realize it wasn’t broken.

Around lighthouse, then up to chapel. Closed, with sign saying “Back in a few.” We took photos, then chapel opened. Interesting and beautiful frescoes … great one of Chinese lion. No photo tho (too bad).

Down hill, looking for lunch as is now after 2pm. Vasco de Gama gardens. Busy shopping streets. Found something fast, then back to hotel. Swim and rest. Asked concierge to book our ferry tickets for tomorrow. Shower.

Tried to find recommended roof top restaurant but no go. So went to recommended Portuguese, which was excellent, especially the African-spiced chicken. Then went to see Empress Hotel, since it was supposed to be very kitschy, but it wasn’t that interesting. Took a cab out to Taipa, where the huge resorts are. Wandered around the Venetian, which must be bigger than Venice … it has three Grand Canals. Heard a gondolier performance as we walked along. Then crossed road to City of Dreams, where we walked from Hard Rock Hotel to Grand Hyatt. Very different: very modern and, I supposed, dreamlike.

Exhausted by then, so cab back to our hotel. Had drinks in the lounge, which was very lounge-like. Drinks were quite reasonably priced for quality of hotel, quality and quantity of alcohol. Then, to room, to pack, to sleep.
