Toady was another beautiful day in Rome. We spent the day on our own(as a group), without any guided tours.
We visited the tomb of the unknown soldier at the National Museum, then headed to circus Maximus and watched a cool parade with many people dressed as ancient Romans, it included men, women, children and horses representing the different roman cities. We visited the Coliseum again but just the exterior this time.
We all took the metro or subway through Rome. It was exciting and fun. This was Cara's first time on any subway. Our destination was the Spanish Steps. They are the widest steps in all of Europe.
We split into smaller groups there. Cara and I went to lunch at an outdoor restaurant with Christine and Jessica. It was kind of fun sitting out there watching people and a man playing a guitar stood on the corner playing Italian music just added to the ambiance.  It was a bit scary at times because cars were driving along the street where we were eating and often came within inches of our chairs. We had to duck once or twice to keep from being hit with the side view mirrors!
We did some shopping and headed back to meet up with the tour director. More Gelato along the way!
Cara was disappointed that her camera died when we visited the Trevi Fountain last night so we went back for a quick photo, with Kirsten. We managed to get a little bit turned around but made it back to the meeting point just in time. It was quite the power walk and fun to explore a bit. It was a long day and everyone was beat!
We need to pack up our stuff to head out for Florence tomorrow!

Jill on

It sounds like a lot of fun. It's nice you had a break from the tours. Back to work for me tomorrow. (:
