I am writing this as we make our way back home. We have had a wonderful time as you can probably tell! This is the longest trip we have taken as a family and I think we certainly have grown closer, too close for comfort sometimes.

We have missed our family at home, our dogs, our friends and our personal space! The kids have kept great journals that I hope will become well loved keepsakes about this adventure.

We took this trip to see the wonderful country that we live in. We saw so much and loved almost all of it, from the powerful Niagara Falls to the broad plains, the dramatic badlands, and the Rocky mountains with their diverse wildlife. As you can tell by the map, we have traveled far, almost 5200 miles and 12 states but there is still so much that we did not get to. You can certainly travel by plane to get to all of these places but it was an experience to see, from the road, how vast the plains are and how tall the Rockies are. It was also an experience to see the many lifestyles that exist here. We are truly blessed to live in such a amazing and remarkable country, I hope all of you get to experience some of what we have on this trip.

I have asked each family member for their funniest memory, favorite activity ,where they would like to go again and what they missed most about home. Here are the responses:

Rob:
Funniest memory: Cara sitting behind the human wall(aka fat man) on the jet boat in Wisconsin, staying dry while everyone else was wet!
Favorite activity: horseback riding white water rafting and nightly campfires
Would like to go back to: Jackson hole, WY
Missed: Our bedroom, we basically functioned with a bed surrounded by about 10 inches of floor space

Cara:
Funniest memory: again the fat man wins!
Favorite activity: white water rafting
Would like to go back to: Wisconsin, wants to visit the amusement parks and try to get wet on the jet boat, also Cedar Point to ride ALL of the coasters
Missed: her bed and grandma

Jenna:
funniest memory: raccoon attack and subsequent hot dog fork defense
Favorite activity: horseback riding and amusement parks
Would like to go back to: mall of America( of course) and the Jackson hole area
Missed : friends and family

Robbie:
Funniest memory: feeding the donkey out the window
Favorite activity: horseback riding
Would like to go back to: Wisconsin Dells and Jackson Hole
Missed: grandma, papa, the dogs and TV

Me:
Funniest memory: I agree with Jenna on the raccoon attack
Favorite activity: hiking the badlands, seeing a grizzly bear
Would like to go back to: the black hills and the badlands
Missed : having space, family and friends

I am so happy and lucky to have been able to share this experience with my wonderful family! But we were never so happy to be home!

I would like to thank Jane and Mark Rudolph for inspiring us to make this trip, for supplying us with lots of info to help us plan our adventure, and, Jane, for giving me the time off to make this extended vacation. Thanks to everyone who followed along with us everyday, especially mom and Jill who posted comments everyday. We loved hearing from all of you. I am going to miss checking in and posting our adventures everyday.

To all of our friends and family thanks for following along with us. We are amazed at the number of visitors to our blog.( almost 1000!!!) Amazing!!

A special thanks to our welcoming committee: Mom, Aunt Barb, Uncle Sal, Madison and Emma.
Mom thanks for the groceries and the amazing home- cooked meal. To all of the welcoming committee thank you for helping us unpack the GWS. We would still be at it at midnight if it were not for you.

We saw you pull in and thought that you would need some alone time with your home. It has not been as much fun without you (and kaelyn says Robbie). We are glad you are back and will look forward to hear some stories over a campfire...albeit in our backyard, which some consider the badlands!!
