Well we are back in the eastern time zone!

Today did not go as we originally planned but worked out OK in the long run.

We left the campground in Nebraska around 10:30 A.M.. Rob was at the wheel and everything was going well. The scenery through Iowa was similar to Nebraska except there were more rolling hills than flat land. Still nice in its own way.

I took over the driving around 2;30 somewhere in central Iowa. Our next stop was originally in central Illinois at a state park. We decided to continue on past it for a couple of reasons. First if we pushed on a bit farther it shortened the drive for tomorrow. We have Cedar Point Amusement Park as our stopping point and less travel time means more ride time in the park. Second, there was some serious weather on the way and we would have been right in the middle of it. As it was, it seemed like a race between us and the thunderstorms. The dark clouds lined the sky to the south, while in the north and east it looked pretty clear. Rob was checking the radar on the ipad, urging me along to avoid the worst of the storm. Meanwhile the highway was lined with tractor trailers and construction cones. It was a Little nerve-wracking but I managed.

The kids read, watched movies, played cards and yahtzee. There were a few squabbles and some parental interventions( nice way of putting it). We could never have made it in a car. The RV definitely has some advantages. It may be a gas guzzler and a bit slow and unwieldy at times but at least there is room to stretch out and move around.

Rob took over the driving just before we hit the outskirts of Chicago and some mild rain. While he managed the drive, I searched for a place for us to stay the night. We ended up at one of the same campgrounds we stayed in on the way out.

Once settled in at the campground, 11 hours after we started, things got a bit silly. I think we were all stir crazy by then but there were a lot of laughs( mostly directed at Rob and his antics). The kids are still settling down as I type this. It has been a long day but we have come a loooooong way but landed safely, none the worse for the wear.
