What happened to the ants?

Well I have this water cooler outside my office and it dispenses both cold and hot water- cold from the blue tap and hot from the red tap. So I use the hot water to make tea, since for some reason I've stopped drinking coffee in Tanzania (an affliction I presume will be cured upon my return to CoffeeLand (aka the States)). And there us a colony of very tiny ants who seem to live in the water cooler but they mosty hang out around and inside of the hot water red tap. So I've gotten used to the fact that each time I make tea I'll have to fish a couple of tiny sad waterlogged ants, sacrificed to the volcano, as it were, from my teacup. And it was always sort of horrible, but, you know, not that big a deal. But today, THEY'RE ALL GONE!!! Where could they be? It's like the Inca (or was it the Mayans? Aztecs?). And what if they were poisoned and now there's and poison instead of ants in my tea??!! Ah, I miss them.
