Started the day around 7:00 and were on the road by 9:00.  We drove out of Lancaster to the East and through some Amish areas.  There is an old one lane wood covered bridge that I had found out about and we made a little side trip go across it.
We arrived to our hotel just before noon.  We were able to get into our room right away and our package from home was also there waiting for us!  Now Erin has some comfortable clothes to wear.  The room is on the 7th floor and we do not have a view, but we are on the back side of the building so there is no road noise.
Since we had a good portion of the day ahead of us we settled in and made our plans for the afternoon.  The guide I bought has a great walking tour of the "Old Town" which we decided to do because it started just a block or two from our hotel. We visited the Christ Church and sat in the Washington family pew. Then we were off to see the Betsy Ross House for a look at colonial Philadelphia. After a quiet stroll through the beautiful old houses of Elfreth's Alley, we went to Fireman's Hall. We did a bit of shopping between historical sights, picking up some kitchen luxuries at Gourmet of Olde City, handmade paper at Artist & Craftsmen Supply, and cat toys at BoneJour. The cat misses us so much when we go away that it's hard not to attempt to make up for it with presents. We had sandwiches at Old City Pizza.
We attempted to visit the Mutter Museum, but it was closed earlier than Frommer's said it would be. Since we were tired of walking and rather thirsty, we looked for a pub to eat dinner in. By chance, while we were looking at our map, a local asked if he could help us find anything particular. We said 'food' and he suggested a few restaurants within two blocks of us. We found ourselves inside The Pub and Kitchen, at a small, candle-lit table. Very romantic. Not quite the 'pub' I had imagined. It was a divine experience. We started with a Wild Onion Wit beer from Chicago and a variety of cheeses and garnishes.
From The Pub & Kitchen we walked back to our hotel, which was about 2 miles!  Great way to work off a good meal.
