Friday 7th August

Left Bargara, headed for Hervey Bay

Nice short drive arrived in time for lunch.

Kids played in an agility park, which was really tough, made them think but they enjoyed the challenge. Toby and Adam headed off to the rock pools on the beach alongside the park in search of crabs and fish.

Initially disappointed we didn't get into Big 4 off main drag, once we settled in to Big 4 at Point Vernon we were even happier, clean, quiet, friendly & best showers (for Adam – his favourite sharp and hard!)

Saturday 8th August

Morning tea at caravan park (scones & pancakes) met a plumber who knew Dave Underhill

Picked up at 12:15 on bus for whale watching tour. We were a bit concerned with the weather, the forecast recommended no boating for Sat afternoon. But thankfully we were in a catamaran (Fast cat II) and we were fine. Few good sways every now and then but overall really good (no seasickness). We had only been going about 40mins when there was abuzz on the boat and sure enough there was a pod of about 5-7 whales ahead. We followed 3 humpback whales for about 2hours. We saw tail slaps, belly rolls and fin waves. All only 200m away from the boat, they got within 20m of the boat. To see such a magnificent huge animal in its natural environment and so friendly is just incredible. We were awestruck. They seemed to show off, the more we cheered, the more animated they became. An amazing experience, we highly recommend it to anyone in Hervey Bay. Kylie thinks she took the perfect postcard photo, typical, only in focus shot of the 4 she took.

We stayed in Hervey Bay the perfect weekend, it was the opening of the whale season, so there was a Fair, street parade and fireworks in the evening. Which was fantastic! Toby did some rock climbing, got some show bags and Lily was thrilled with her Butterfly sparkly light & some rides on the giant slide with dad. A great but exhausting day, we all slept well Saturday night.

Sunday 9th August

Went to Hervey Bay Bapt church

Chatted with pastor Keith who knows Duncan

Ok service, great message, big building on 43 acres

Stopped on way home for coffee.

Kids swam in the pool while mum & dad read books & Sunday papers
