Manzanillo......again!!!

Today was yet another delay to the trip and we simply sat around in Manzanillo at the same hotel here on the seafront.

Jim had arrived early morning and was back with us. One could easily see just how much shock he was in as he was just not his usual self. Then again anyone who was hijacked and taken at gunpoint into the jungle and held there for two hours while they argue about what to do to him is sure to be in shock.

Due to all this we are all in a bit of shock ourselves at the moment and every bunch of young men we see we begin to get a little nervous.

The feeling of the guys has really gone down and we are all thinking of how to get to Alaska and back to New York on time!! For myself it will be a mighty struggle as I am flying out of NY on 2nd June and so with this delay I feel it is rather impossible for me to make Alaska. Even if I make it to the lowest part of Alaska I still wont get back to NY on time. Other options were to ride to

Alaska and then back to Seattle where I could get my bike shipped across US to NY and I could fly was one of my plans but the shipper in Seattle could not guarantee the arrival dates for my bike and said it could take anything up to 3 weeks and by then the ship home would have left!!

Many of the guys are now finishing in Las Vegas and somehow I think I may just join them. I am just so bitterly disappointed that whenever made it to Alaska. I could always ride onwards to NY alone but if anything was to happen to me or the bike it could spell disaster so im getting ever closer to telling the shipper to collect my bike in Vegas.

I feel like I have-not achieved my goal but some of us have to work to earn a living and im due back to work about 4th June.

During the day John and I took our bikes along to visit a Honda dealer so John could get his oil changed. Phil wanted a rear tire for his KTM but the shop had non in stock and said it would take two days for delivery. He just could not wait that length of time so the dealer started phoning around and finally found him one at a very high price.

We then took our bikes into the centre of Manzanillo in search of "Mexico" stickers for our bikes. We searched loads of shops but never found any stickers at all. The whole town was full of the normal old boring shops that we get all over UK and every other shopping centre on this planet....shoe shops and woman's clothes shops!!!!!....they should be banned;-)

We both found the town centre rather boring and after a quick drink we headed back to the hotel where I jumped straight into the pool. A few of us later went into the wonderfully warm sea. The temp of the water was just great and was even hotter than the pool.

For dinner we went to a nearby local restaurant where I had some rather hot and spicy food. Again I do not know what was on that plate but I ate it.

The rest of the gang is trying to get me to finish the trip in Vegas with them but I'm not so sure I want to do that. I can always ride to NY or to Chicago and meet some friends I have there!!! Decision time??

Tomorrow we are off to Las Rosas which is a shorter journey than originally planned. This is simply so we can easily make the journey and won't need to ride in the dark in this dangerous land. Looking at my map I have no idea where Las Rosas is so will have to ask Nick the question in the morning.

Hi Rich, Sorry to read about all your troubles and the way it has compromised your journey plans. I'm sure whatever you decide you will come out on top, you are a great survivor. Next time you will just have to start from Alaska!! All the best for the rest of your trip. David

Hi Richard,

I have been following your blog daily and sorry to hear of your problems and security concerns. Rather than finish in Las Vegas why not continue north for around 4-5 hours to Ely, Nevada and have a good look around the Nevada Northern Railway there - shed, coal tower everything as in the 50s. Its then just a 2 hour drive across to Salt Lake City and fly home from there?
