Yesterday I went on a walk around Valparaíso I saw the statue of Arturo Prat and went on some ascensores. The ascensores Concepción is from 1883. Wow.

I took lots of pictures and then later in the evening went out with Rodrigo to a party some of his friends were having. It was at the house of one of the kids he graduated colegio with. There were maybe 40 people there. I was "la gringa". Any American is a gringo, and I was the only one there not Chilean. It was pretty cool, although now I'm very tired. I'm running on four hours of sleep, since I had to get up so early for an excursion.

...And now I'll talk about the excursion! We traveled up to an artisan village about an hour and a half or two hours away. I bought a cool scarf, hat (like for skiing), a present for my parents (which I won't say what it is, because they read this blog...), and other little things for my close friends. I ate lunch in the village and the waitress said the empanadas were small. So they weren't. And both Kristen and I ordered two empanadas de queso and a sandwich (mine was turkey, and absolutely amazing). To say the least, I am stuffed. Still. And it's 8 hours later (although I did have a small snack with my host family... well soup.)

After the artisan village, we went to Pablo Neruda's house, Isla Negra. It was very pretty and cluttered. Then we went to the beach right there and played in the sand, climbed the rocks, and watched the waves grow as the tide came in. The sky went from blue to pink and orange. Gorgeous.

Tomorrow, we are going to beaches in the north, and horseback riding along the beach. I´m so excited! It costs all of 2,000 pesos to horseback ride for 30 minutes (note: that´s a little over 4 USD).
