Happy Holidays!  I should have written when we arrived around the 13th of December, but we hit the ground running and dashed through a holiday performance, a violin recital, a great visit from Nana from New Mexico a fun filled break, our great neighbors to Christmas Eve burritos and 20 people to dine on turkey and fixins for Christmas!  Lots of food, family, friends and fun and we hope you did too!

We have a few wonderful memories from the last days in Costa Rica including:A stay at Esterillos at a place called Encantada with really nice people.  There we met four friendly dogs, much to the happiness of the kids.  Two of them were orphaned girl puppies who followed the kids around like...well...puppies.  We spent those days frolicking more in the pool than the ocean because we saw a sting ray in the water, walking the beach and soaking up the sun and energy during our last days of our trip.  On the last night there, we took the kids to dinner and surprised them that we had decided (if they wanted to) to adopt the two darling small pinchers!  The kids, ecstatic, agreed, and we spent the next day or so heading back to San Jose for our flight, taking the dogs to a vet, buying the needed equipment and faking like we were sure of what we were doing.  You know us, so you know Silas and I arequite planful usually.  This choice to bring new family members home was now, I see, a way of saying "yes" to a universe that had provided us with an amazing experience in Central America and as a family.  The trip had clearly massaged the leather that was our "scheduled minds" and made them supple enough to decide that two small Costa Rican dogs of unknown age and breed would be a good thing on the farm.  We hoped for the best and got it--an easy trip home with some serendipitous looks in the other direction where regulations are concerned.
Since then, the dogs and kids have happily settled in to a life of contentment and learning new tricks.  The dogs are learning to come when called, not to bark at the goats and cows, not to eat the chickens, etc.  The kids are learning to walk their new siblings and pick up their you-know-what.  All are rewarded with their appropriate rewards and recognition.

And so it goes.  Thanks for keeping in touch with us.  We hope to see you all soon, and we are glad that you are in our lives.  Not just glad, but truly grateful that we have a community so full of such warm and loving, supportive and amazing people.
It is our hope that in 2013, you and your families will have chances to do the things that make you all happy, to grow and learn and open up to the miracles of life and this world, wherever you may be and whatever you may do.  Many blessings to you all!

Love and Respect,
The Halloran-Steiners
