the boys have now made their way to queenstown on the south island which without a doubt is one of the more scenic places we have visited!! our first afternoon here was spent taking a casual walk around the town and taking in our first fast food in almost two weeks - umm it tasted good!!! the night was also rob and ads first beer outing since new years eve as our week of the alcohol had been completed and with only minor symptoms of cold turkey being observed.
But today was the big day we had been waiting for- its bungy time kids!!! As we are not quite as crazy as steveo and the elder generation of travellers we only took on the jump at the original bungy jump site of the Kawarau Bridge. Me and ad did the jump with jimmy spectating from the sidelines at lunchtime today and both loved it
. Both our nerves were fine but its fair to say they were not helped by the girl in front of us taking five mins to actually jump and only doing so after a sly push by the guy working on the ledge and by also having to stare at the arse of the American dude in front of her who was jumping naked- not a pretty site I can tell you!! We both asked to get just our arms wet as we didn't have a spare change of clothes but we both then got dunked more or less down to our waists, never mind!!! hopefully some ace photos of our jump will be going up soon as we can download our official photos from the company web site in a couple of days!!!
Thats more or less all that we have been up to in queenstown since we arrived yesterday but trips to Milford sound are planned along with other highly dangerous activities to worry friends and family!!!!
stay tuned and stay safe t'po fans!!!
over and out
Jim: Well today was river boarding, or river sledging as some of you keyed up people will now!
! It started off with a 45 minute drive up the Kawarua river. We got kitted up in full wet suits, crash helmets and flippers and headed for the river. Basically what we were going to do was go down 5km of river on a body board... it may sound easy but i can tell you it wasn't!! The first km was grade 4 rapids, or for the uneducated on river terminology proper big white water stuff!!! we were told before we started to watch out for the whirlpools as they, quote,"drag you down, spin you round and spit you out!!" what fun we were letting ourselves in for!! we were also told to not let go off you boards- which wasn't as easy as you may think as the water was cold and so were your hands- as your boards always return to the surface so if you let go you may be in a spot of trouble!!! After the first km we were blowing, such hard work trying to kick your way out of trouble constantly. The next km was much easier... another km of rapids!! thankfully these were a bit straighter so a bit less hard work but it did involve going through "the man eater" rapids"... brilliant! we all managed to come through unscathed though fortunately, ad did have a bit of an attraction to the rocks at one point put all was cool. The next few kms were a lot easier and a much needed rest to get our breath back... unbelievably tiring!! we finished off by getting towed around by a jet ski with a trailer on the back. I went on first with a crazy Swiss bloke who was begging to go faster... i came off a couple of times going flying into the water and aqua planing quite a distance. Ads and rob went after and they were also asking for some serious speed... and they got it. i think they held on for a pretty long time before coming off!! Finally we got involved in a bit of rock jumping, the men amongst us(not me) went for the higher over 10m option, i chickened out and went for the tame 5m effort... quite high enough for me!! also there was a big river slide and rope swing which provided mucho hilarity!!! A really top day, completed by receiving some free hot dogs, and plenty of free beer voucher so will be taking advantage of those later on!! I am however aching in places i didn't know existed so in need of a good rest!!
Some photos will follow shortly of us looking red hot in wet suits... not pretty!!!
Stay tuned t.pod fans, more action to come!!!
