Jim: Hello there folks. I arrived in Darwin yesterday after spending a casual 24 hours on "The Ghan" train from Alice up North!! The train ride was fairly uneventful though I must say. I departed Alice around 4pm, and we had our first stop at Katherine at 8am the following morning. We had a long stop of 4 hours here so I set out to explore the town. Well, there was very little there at all!! I didn't have time to do the gorge, although, even i did I couldn't have because of the torrential rain and flooding of the river. So I spent a few hours wandering aimlessly having some breakfast... Definitely a forgettable place.

After that we proceeded onto Darwin which was just another 4 hours away. We were however slightly delayed on our arrival as one of the work sheds at the station had sunk during the storms and was blocking the track at some stage!! It would be interesting to see how long our trains would be delayed back home with that... In Oz, just 10 minutes... who knows how they fixed it!! I arrived at the hostel around 5 and had a quick check out of the city... there doesn't seem much to it. if I remember correctly to what i heard the population is around the same as that in Halesowen!!

Thankfully the weather is a bit better today so I'm off exploring again and going to see whats what.... not much i don't think. Anyway I'll keep you updated!!

I have a busy next 3 days, I'm off to Kakadu and Lichfield National Parks... should be interesting.... Lots of crocodiles!!!

Stay tuned T.podders
