Where I stayed

Flag of Ireland  , County Cork,
Saturday, August 29, 2009

flew with Ryanair from London Stansted to Shannon Ireland, dont like Ryanair, in fact I have stayed away from them for over 3 yrs since the last flight, suppose its mainly due to Stansted Airport, dont like it, expensive to get there, its far, oh well lets get over it

rental car booked through easycar, the local operator was 353 rentals, we were an hour early for the specified time, and they wouldnt/couldnt release the car early, so waited, in fact ended up getting car 45 min late so that pissed me off, oh well lets get over it

so out the airport, in the car, and off we go

for about 10km, 10 min, and we are at stop one, Bunratty Castle

costs about €10, good value, its a huge site, there is a whole venue to see, lot more than just a castle, which by the way is also pretty impressive, the rest of the village is very authentic, lots of deer, donkies, ducks, pretty impressive irish wolfhounds

for lunch we go to the pub at Bunratty, awesome, guiness and pub fare, sets the scene for the whole weekend, its all I drink, its all I eat

and we drive on, to Bantry, where we spend the night, its a long drive, far longer than I thought, the highways are great, but on the smaller roads its much slower going, great scenery dont get me wrong, but slow

Bantry looks great, we stay in Dromcloc house which is pretty cool, most of the places to stay were pretty pricey by our normal travel standards, €30-odd pp pn

We head into town for a few beers and dinner, the food doesnt disappoint, nor does the Guiness

Its September but its a bit nippy, colder than London by 5-6 degrees, disappointing really as I hoped it would be warmer

at least its sunny-ish
