Waited patiently for coach, but it was dog late, after a lenghty debate had
just decided to head off by ourselves, when it arrived! On
board, our tour guide just loved his loud whistle and
insisted on blowing it and stamping his foot -
Brazillian style. We took a cable car to the top of the
Sugar Loaf, where the views were only stunning
(Copacobana Beach/Rio/Guanamara Bay/2 Fortresses
protecting the City/ Mountains in the distance and
Christ the Redeemer atop the Tropical Mountains).
Stopped in on RioŽs New Cathredral, where Pope John
Paul visited twice. Then off for lunch, where we
devoured an all you can eat buffet style meal, with
about 8 diff types of meat all done on BBQ skewers,
more fishes than I could even venture to name.
Rolled out of restaurant and headed for the slums,
then Maracana Soccer Stadium, the largest stadium in
the world, 135,000 capacity, final is on Sunday, but
weŽll be gone - unfortunately. Then visited the Mardi
Gras parade street and tried on costumes. Took
windey road up to Christ The Redeemer, which was built
by the French (just to give u an idea his hand alone
is about 2 metres long!) We were nearly killed going up with
our race car driver, who nearly got stuck in a manhole!
Honestly they drive at top speed even around turns.
All this for only R$90 - well worth it.
Played jenga at
home, too wrecked for anything more.
