Day 9

Ok, we had to get up bright and early, ok well, not by church standards. We got up at 7am. But, after sleeping in for a few days it seemed early. Production people don't be haters  We took off from College Station on our way down to Texas. I gotta say I love and hate the roads here. You can drive 70 on most of the state roads here. And they're pretty good roads, many are four lanes. However, at night they are really dark and feel pretty dangerous. Anyways, we got to the church early to check it out. It is a very cool campus. They don't have much of a lobby because it's all outdoors. I guess you can get away with that in a state that's nice outside almost all year. They have a nice, but simple auditorium. Nice stage, nice booth, no catwalks though...bummer. The production reminds a lot of Kensington in years past. You can tell that much like KCC they built a nice building, but held off on all the tech to outfit it best. They have a very cool area called the garage. It's a coffee shop, but with a little flare.  From what we saw of the kids area it seems very up to date and fun as well. After we got done with the service we got a chance to hang with the director of programming. It was an interview of sorts. They've got some open positions, and those positions are somewhat flexible, but we were really trying to get a feel for what the church is all about and what their vision is. It was a good conversation. We feel like we identify with their style and personality. She asked me to schedule a conversation with their executive pastor to get some more ideas about what we could bring to their team. After that we headed back into downtown Austin. I gotta say we are really enjoying it. It feels alive, there is so much energy. We grabbed a meal at Guero's Taco Bar. It was very tasty. Outside they had a small stage where a band was playing while people were eating and drinking. There are places like this all over Austin. Next we roamed around South Congress and looked at the shops. All kinds of cool art stores. We hit a little outdoor art vendor section where we picked up some stuff for Ethan and Adeana. We walked for a bit, got some ice cream, hit some more stores, then decided to head to Zilker park. It's a very large park in Austin where they have sports fields, a botanical garden, and it's just generally a nice place to chill. So, that 's what we did. We took a little nap, played catch for awhile, and then I got some "I" time by staring at the ground for 10 minutes, but then sadly it was over and I had to come back to reality. It had been a long day so we started heading back. On the way we grabbed some Sonic. We had never been there before, so it was kinda fun. But, it will never beat Mason's Drive In back home! Ahh, so sad that's it's gone now. Oh well. See ya tomorrow!
