We boarded the plane from Rio to London a little despondant to be returning home and even being in business class with flat beds and free flowing bubbles didn't cheer us up. Nothing more to be said about that flight, except the flat beds on a BA flight are nowhere near as comfy as Qantas.
After ten and a half hours we touched down at LHR and for once the queues at immigration weren't too bad and our bags were waiting for us when we arrived at the baggage carousel. So after a quick farewell to a couple we had met at our hotel in Buzios we made our way into arrivals where my dad was waiting to whizz us (actually with my dad driving whizz is not a word that aptly describes the journey to Headley Down) back to Hampshire and our first roast dinner in a long time.
Am I pleased to be back? No, definitely not. I know there was a good reason for only going away for 10 months, i.e. money, but actually we didn't spend nearly as much as we thought we would so we could have stayed away for longer. Hindsight is a magical thing is it not? Even going back to our house in London to measure up for new sofas didn't cheer us up. Meeting up with friends was lovely but although all I wanted to do to cheer myself up was talk about the trip I was conscious of being a bore so hardly mentioned it at all.
What did cheer me up was flying to Holland for a while (broken up in the middle by a flight back to London to see Take That and Robbie at Wembley Stadium) to stay with my sister and then Tim. The weather was lovely, and I felt as though I was back on my trip. So, on my return to the UK I settled down at the computer and started planning my next trips. Next summer - back to Bubbles. Six weeks of pure heaven.
This is most definitely my last blog for this trip.
