18th August 2007 - Montreal

I have arrived safely in Montreal and am staying at a very big hostel! I nearly died when the lady at the front desk couldn't find me on the systen, it all got sorted out, but it means that I have to move rooms, oh well better than being out on the street. I am very much in French Canada, all of the signs on the street are in French and I could bearly understand my cabbie. They have a really good system here that a cab from the airport to down town is a flat $35.00. I was not prepared to walk 30min with the bags I have now. Too much shopping..... :)

First famous sighting - Sophie Monk and which ever one of the brothers didn't knock up Nicole Richie. Also Justin Timberlake was in town!

19th August 2007 - Montreal

Today after deciding that I wanted to have some company I signed up to one of the tours that the hostel does to Tam Tam. Tam Tam is a African drumming thing that happens every Sunday in a park. It has never been offical and it started 60 years ago as a big jam and it has continued and grown ever since. There is a small market near there, sports fields across the road, people in the park everywhere playing frisby and hakky sack. The drumming was awesome. I spent most of the day talking to a really nice girl from Melbourne and another really nice girl from Christchurch. The drumming was going off and there were a lot of people dancing around and getting really into it. There was also a lot of people clearly off their faces, but no one was harming anyone.

We then walked up the hill to watch these guys take to the battle field. The tour guide just reacons that it is really funny to watch. They have fake swords, shields, hammers, bows and arrows and anything that resembles a weapon. Some of them have armour and masks, it was rather interesting. There are rules to the battle as well and if you get hit you have to render that part of your body useless or "die". It wasn't uncommon to hear something like "use the force" cried from one of the warriors, it was quite funny.

We then walked through the city and went to a pub were most everyone had a pint. We got back to the hostel at 4pm and I walked up to the main street for a bit and back to the hostel.

20th August 2007 - Old Montreal - Bike Tour

The hostel had a bike tour of Old Montreal today and it was awesome, it was so good to be on a bike and speeding along the river. Montreal is very bike friendly and beautiful. The trails were along tree lined streets and through markets, across bridges and we even had a "victory lap" around the F1 track. (Yep Dad the F1 track, it was so cool!)It was a great day and again spent it with some very nice travellers.I would love to tell you all where we went but I will have to look at a map cause everything is in French and I can bearly say it let alone remember it to type later.

We got back into the hostel at about 4pm and I went to a very famous New Age Shop in Montreal which has been open for 19 years.

I have been so utterly boring at night and have not been going out, I would have no idea where to go anyway!

21st August - Olympic City & Pub Crawl

Today the girls and I went to the Olympic city and had a wonder around. The stadium is pretty impressive and it would have been a real buzz being there at the opening ceremony for the games. They have converted the pools, gym and some other ares for public use and use it for training.

That night we went out to the HI organised pub crawl which was fun, I only had one drink, but when have I ever needed alcohol to be social. We went to three places before Belinda and I had enough. We walked back to the hostel with this random guy from Switzerland at 3am in the morning. They had a pit stop at Burger King and we had no problems at all walking back, Montreal is a pretty save city, that or we were lucky.
