Day 1 to 3 - Not Much
Arrived in town around 8am and had to walk from the tourist office where I got dropped off to the hotel. Had hoped to find two letters when I arrived but found none. Given I should have had a least one waiting for me this was not good. Had been fairly confident of this since my replacement card from the bank had made it to the hotel. Given my luck at the moment guess I should have known better

Seems that the first letter hadnt made it through the normal postal channels which meant I had lost the replacement card for the card that was about to expire. Not good given the replacement card I received for the card I had lost has a pin number on it that I dont know due to the letter with the pin never arriving at my parents.

Seems that at the end of the month I wont be able to take cash out of an ATM and will need to do it within a branch. Beside the usual language problems that go with this it will currently be impossible to do since I will need some photo Id (passport) which I dont have.

Really need to try and have a passport by the end of the month but with this first letter going missing the next one probably will was well. Not an encouraging sign for getting the passport sorted by the end of the month. Guess I will just have to make sure I have enough cash to get me by between the end of the month and the time I get my passport. Also have a deadline of the 22nd Nov to get out of the country due to this being the date my original visa expired.

Also dont know if it would have made a difference but had originally wanted my brother to use the express post. Unfortunately he confused this with registered mail, which needs photo Id, and so used normal airmail. Given I dont know why the letters never arrived so not sure if this would have made a difference or not.

At the moment only thing holding my full passport application up was the endorsed photo. Not sure why the Australian governemt had to make it so hard for someone who has lost there passport (ie previously held one and gone through the application process once before) to get a new full one.

Decided to wait til the end of the week for the second letter even if I wasnt holding out much hope of getting it and considered my options. Decided to try one more time to get a photo but decided on using DHL to deliver it this time. If nothing else I could always give them a call if the letter didnt show up. Only problem was getting my brother to endorse yet one more photo and put it in the post. Needed this done soon since as mentioned above my original visa was going to expire soon and its 5 days for the post, 10 working days for the passport and 3-4 days for a new visa. This meant I required 4 weeks to sort things out and I would be pushing my deadline.

Was a bit disappointed at this point about the letter not reaching me. While I had resolved to be OK with a temporary passport when I originally lost my passport I was sort of hoping to get a full one after all the stuffing around I have gone through over the previous few weeks, Can only hope that with this last attempt it wasnt all in vain.

As for what I did over my 3 days of waiting. It wasnt much. Basically considering my options, watching videos or reading a book. Just wasnt in the mood to do much. All I really did was wander the streets of the old quarter each day for 2-3 hours when I went to get something for dinner. also booked a tour on friday to a nearby village area in order to pass the time doing something a bit more interesting.

At this point was hoping to get the endorsed photos some time in the following week. That was assuming my brother got the photos done and in the post sooner rather than later since my chance of getting a full passport were very much reliant on him helping me out.
