Ended up heading to spend the night in San Francisco so that I could get my visa for china sorted and had a short walk to the bus heading out to the red woods where I planned to kill some time hiking while waiting to get my passport back with the chinese visa.

Also visited REI to buy some cheap gear so I could send stuff like my rain coat back to OZ. On the way back to the hostel wander through a local street market and bought some of the fruit and nuts being sold.

Decided to get my chinese visa before leaving the states and so delayed my flight from the states by a week and decided to kill the time by heading out to the redwoods. From earlier emails was expecting to get a multiple entry visa valid for 12 months with a 90day stay. In the end got a dual entry visa valid for 6 months with a 60day stay. At least it gets me in the country and gives me a chance to updated it in country.

The agency that gets the visa has 3 branches and i got the impression that depending on where I got it determined the type of visa. With the extra days I would need for posting, decided that the oprion provided by the San Francisco branch would do for starters. At worst it means I need to fly out and back into china during the month of April. Also given I could of gotten it backl in 3 rather than 5 days I probably could have stayed in san francisco to wait for the passport and caught an earlier flight. Oh well.

After putting my pasport in headed back out to Cupertino to catch up with Dan once last time for dinner. Not a bad meal at a middle eastern restaurant.
