My second country of the trip, and it was only a one hour ferry trip away.

Colonia itself was a lovely, quiet and small city. A colonial city as you may have guessed, but one that was fought for by the Spanish and the Portuguese. The Spanish won but you can still see the different arquitectural styles.... if you`re wondering how I would know such stuff, well, we had a tour guide and I listened to that bit. Enough history

The tour lasted only 45 mins, of which 20 mins was walking at least. Then we were left to wander, have lunch and such like. We did that and quickly realised we`d catch the early ferry home. But first there was time to hire some buggies, petrol powered buggies, and race around the streets of this quiet town. So we did...

Myself and Matt hired one and tried to find our way to the beach and other recommended sights. I was in charge of directions to start with. I failed. Within 4 minutes. We found ourselves on the highway heading to Montevideo at 30mph... surprisingly we managed to overtake some slower moving cars! We realised about 10 mins along this road that it wasn`t the right way, so turned back.

Back in town, a few turns the wrong way down one way streets but other than that we were fine. Then we performed an apparantly illegal turn in the road, and got pulled over by the police!! Yep, its true. Pulled over by Uruguayian police in a small buggy, after some Spanglish apologies they decided they couldn`t be bothered to talk to us further and we were on our way. Close one.

Then we were late for the ferry,... so we had hot foot it back to the garage to fill up and return the buggy. Fast walk across town. Check in for the boat. Go thru outgoing and incoming immigration departments. We made it, just
