Well, we did end up taking a full day in Moosomin.  By the time we had everything done it was about 3:30pm and the wind was pretty strong so we just decided to take a full rest day as we were due for one.  It wasn't the greatest spot as, like I said, no bathrooms/showers/laundry but we still enjoyed the rest.  Picnic tables magically appeared by the time we got back after updating the blog last time though!

The next morning (man, we are both totally losing track of days.  Would that be Wed?) was, agian, quite windy.  At this point we both realize that these winds are going to just be standard so we may as well get used to it.  The way our route was going today was a bit of a zig-zag south and west so we knew we'd get a bit of reprieve going south.  We got on the road and, as expected, heading south wasn't terrible.  Then we turned and were on the 48 going west and WOW.  No idea what the wind strength was but it was tough.  It wasn't just a head wind, it was an all over wind - you could see the weeds, etc on the side just twirling and dancing!  It was a really tough 30km into Wawota.  To give you an idea, Adam and I can easily sustaing 28-32km/hr on the flats, no/minimal wind, and in ON we were doing around the 23km/hr with hills.  We were doing around 14km/hr into this wind.  Ouch.  And then we get to Wawota and regret not pushing on from Moosomin the other day!  There was a great little campground run, by donation, by the Lion's Club.  With showers!  We seriously debated staying there for the rest of the day (it was lunch) but thought we shouldn't as, given the winds, we did get another chance to go south in another 18km and we hoped to make it to Carlyle.  So we made the last 18km into the crazy wind and turned south again.  It was a nice route but did you know that SK has rolling hills?!  It was completely rolling the whole way!  It took us by complete surprise.  About 10km outside of Carlyle though it flattened out and got back to PROPER prairie landscape.
We found the camping but the guy wanted $20 for nothing - no water, no BBQs, no camppit, no dishwashing facility, and he wanted to shove us on a little tiny pitch of gravel under a covered shelter full with picnic tables.  Not impressed and we were not paying for that so we moved on and pitched behind the highschool.

After a good night's sleep, we were up and hoping to make it into Weyburn, about 120km away, but truly didn't expect to as we knew the winds were going to slow us down.  There were a couple of small towns between so we knew we'd be able to stop if we couldn't get in.  But the winds were nice to us today!  There was some but nothing crazy and we were able to get in the 18-20km range which let us get into Weyburn around 6:30pm.  And, just before Weyburn, we actually hit 5000 km!!  We deicded it was time to celebrate, we have been very good with not getting motels and really lucking into free nights so we splurged on the Weyburn Inn which included a hot buffet breakfast, there were laundry facilities here, and (maybe best of all?) a hot tub :)  So we picked up a pizza & beer and indulged ourselves last night.  Totally worth the $100.  It's worked out well as we needed a couple of things in town from WalMart and we'll just take a 1/2 day and be able to mosey along.  Internet looks like it will be pretty scarce for a while but we're following the Red Coat Trail (Hwy 13) and then will be cutting north to the TC through Cypress Hills area so you can sort of see our trail that way.

It's super exciting to see how far we've come but now that the end is actually coming upon us, it's sad.  But not to dwell on that as we still have some kms to go!

We've also figured out the video functions on our camera and, hopefully, will be able to load a couple of videos on this blog!

Wow - video as well. You're getting really good at this travel blog stuff! Congratulations on the 5000km, that is an awesome accomplishment, glad you were somewhere you could really relax and savor the experience.
I did notice that Shasta didn't seem to get to enjoy the hot tub experience LOL. Hope she got something she could appreciate - any big deer bones nearby maybe?
Happy trails and safe cycling to you all.

Big Bro on

Congrats on 5K. Easton is cheering you on. Aidan laughed watching Tara almost puke (sorry, I wonder what you said to Adam after the camera was off). They don't recognize the grizzled bearded man. Hopefully we can meet up when you hit Calgary (Lethbridge). Keep on bikin'
