Where I stayed
Oak Lock
What I did
Canoeing
Tonbridge to Oak Weir Lock (7.5km) 2hours arrived at campsite at 4pm.
After waking up hung over from Matt's wedding, we rallied ourselves and packed the car with all our provisions for our 3 night trip. Once at the drop in point at tonbridge slipway I then had to find some where safe to leave the car.
I returned heroically to find Heidi sitting in the canoe eating all the chocolate and looking very comfortable. It was GO TIME!!
Our 1st lock was only 1km away (Town Lock). It was great fun due to the fact that the Environment Agency (EA) have put in fish passes. We simply had to 'slide' down the pass over the brushes which enable the fish to swim upstream and then spawn.
The following locks all had fish passes : Eldridges Lock, Porters Lock, East Lock and Oak Weir Lock.
The fish passes are graded and they get harder (deeper/FASTER) as you progress downstream. So much fun!!
Oak Lock was our planned campsite for the 1st night. It was a wild camp site with no facilities. We arrived to find some 'jolly' fishermen in their element with plenty of beer and weed.
We set up camp and cooked our 1st meal in our trangia, chilli con-carne- yummy. :)
