We left Kanchanaburi and headed back to Bangkok. Seems like all roads do not lead to Rome....they lead to bloody Bangkok. You just cant stay way from the place. Its the hub of Asia. Weve found a new hotel in BK that rivals the Shanti lodge. Hey Katie, next time your there check it out. Its cool. Lamphu House. Its close to KhaoSan Road but still far enough away! and its all brand new, Japanese sort of decor and cheaper than Shanti. The travel agent there arranged our India Visa. Which we have collected, six month multiple entry. So we can check out the situation in Nepal closer to the time and see what the story is. Seems like its all quiet now so theres still a chance we can go.
Anyway, spent the night in BK then got the 23 hour train to Butterworth in Malaysia. You just sleep SOOOO WELL on Thai trains. :( we felt great as we went through immigration at 9.30 the next morning. If they ever need an excuse to hassle dodgy looking foreigers at immigration, just stick them on a sleeper train the day before. You absolutely WILL look like crap with a slightly nervous tremor the next morning. "anything in your bags miss?' "errr. no. er....clothes!" . "only clothes?" .."er yes!" (looks slightly unconvinced). then wanders off looking flushed and confused. Now im nornally pretty good at crossings, but i wouldnt have been suprised if he'd insisted on inspecting every pair of dirty pants in my filthy bag, looking for incriminating powder!.
In Butterworth we managed to get on a bus within half an hour headed for KL. Only another 5 hours of boredom :( We arrived stinking and dishevelled at 7.30 pm and were greeted by a tout. We couldnt be arsed to look around so followed him to his Guesthouse and checked in. Its not too bad, lets just say weve seen a lot worse! Though the bed may be the saggiest Ive ever slept in. You need to be pretty personal with the person your sharing with before you go to sleep, cos your gona be pretty damn personal by the time you wake up! Fortunately Adam and I are still speaking and it wasnt such an issue for us :)
So here we are back in lovely Kuala Lumpur! We like this place! :) Its clean, the traffic isnt so chaotic and the people are generally friendly and mostly leave you alone to get on with your business. A whole day to kill in KL today and what did we do??? NOWT! :) We had a sleepy morning then staggered out to the Mcdonalds at 3'ish. Now were back at the GH killing time before we go back to sleep :)The flight to Bali is at 5pm tomorrow. So, If KL is anything like Bangkok, we'll have to go to the airport about midnight tonight! NO, its not that bad really, and the traffic here isnt so congested. If we get the train at 2ish we should be OK. I hope...
