Life is such a ferris wheel...almost 5 years ago Adam and I were wondering these lands searching for the next big adventure, today here we are again taking it to the next level! I was extremely happy to hear from my former boss at UPS in response to our blog emails. She showed her support of our travels and extended the offer for us to stay with her family in Brussels.  On our way out to Amsterdam I realized we should consider exploring a bit of Belgium as well...2 days later we arrive to Brussels Central Station and we are quite confused by the shift in languages to a hodgepodge of French, German and what? Flemish! It's a serious problem when you don't know what language it's best to speak to someone in and you are looking for a payphone in a world that no longer has a place for them...

Anyhow, we are dazed and confused for a while, but managed to make it to the outskirts of the city to the lovely home of Andrea and Paco, the best home away from home one could ever ask for! Upon our late arrival, we were enthusiastically greeted by a beautiful and darling three year old named Sophie who was very excited to see us and helped mom whip up a delicious meal for us to feast on. A wonderful evening and a very comfortable nights sleep later we were walking around the city of Brussels.

I must say, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the capital of a relatively small country, but boy was I surprised. First sight we visited was the famous 'Grand Platz', the most beautiful old center in the world. Apparently we missed the city's "Mannequin Pis" statue, which must have been so small for us not to see it, when we visited the platz 3 times! Anyhow check out the link of the little boy peeing, super classy!

The city is absolutely beautiful with lots of Gothic and Art Nouvau architecture to check out. There are specialty chocolate shops everywhere and it's super hard for a recovering chocoholic to ignore the smell every time you pass, including the infamous Godiva. Unfortunately, I opted for a taste of Godiva (Adam's favorite) knowing that I love the Neauhaus cholocate and was sadly disappointed, the chocolates Andrea had for us in the room were way better! We had some seriously low temperatures but managed to cover a decent amount of ground in the city including a visit to see a special Frida Kahlo exhibit, have the most amazing "pommes frites" of our lives and drink some delicious Belgian beer before the day came to an end. To top an already excellent day we were treated to a wonderful meal of "Gambas al Ajillo", such a treat for the kebab feasting nomads.
