When I first arrived in Burghausen I was already gawking from the ride from Munich Airport.  The architecture and the setup of the town was spectacular.  The city was divided into 2 parts, one being the new part of the city, and one being the old.
The new part was on top of a very large plateau-like terrain while the older part of the town was along the river below the plateau.  Probably the most spectacular vision in Burghausen, the castle, overlooks both parts, sitting slightly higher than the new part, in between both parts.  It is the longest castle in Europe spanning over a kilometer in length (1024 meters)!

The Salzach river flows next to the city which also separates Austria from Germany.

The river used to curve around the castle but now the chopped a part of the river next to the castle making an artificial lake/park, which the castle also overlooks.

With its stunning beauty and history, I am glad to have had the privilege to share my experience.
