Hey friends!

I haven't decided if I like this whole middle-man, travel blog site scene yet or not but I'll give it a shot.  I mean, let's be honest, when I have a precious 15 minutes of internet I want to be able to blow atleast 12 of them on facebook-- not 14.5 minutes trying to figure out how to get the stupid e-pushpin on my travel map.  We'll see.

Ok-- so here's the lowdown.  I've just finished an intense week of training here in Independence, Missouri and will be boarding a plan to Hong Kong in 6 hours, where I will have two more days of WorldService Corps "training" before arriving at the Manila airport in the Philippines.  Yes, quotes around training-- partly because I may stab my eyes out if we have any more "training" and partly because there's honestly nothing more we can do until we get our assignments when we arrive.  So gallivanting around Hong Kong for two days, rubbing elbows with some rich lawyer friends, sure I'm in.

Zach and Myles are two guys from Graceland University that I will be traveling with, atleast for the first part and last part of our stay in the Philippines.  They're both really chill guys that I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with... atleast for the time that I'll be with them.  Communication with our local hosts has apparently been pretty sporadic as recent typhoons has wiped out alot of lines-- great, I should've packed an umbrella.  Honestly though, I've had the opportunity to talk with past WSC Volunteers who went to the Philippines and they have nothing but exciting and upbeat stories about they're experiences and I have a pretty long list of people to deliver hugs to when I arrive.  Well, all were exciting stories except for the ones about eating boiled chicken embryos and the ill effects of Giardia when they accidentally drank tap water.  Thank God for my extensive supply of Cipro, Immodium, and ORS.

I'm crossing my fingers that I will have internet to keep updates coming-- and if you know me, I can smell wi-fi from upwards to 10 miles away (proven fact).  Most of all though, I want to take a minute to thank you all for your help and support as I've prepared for this summer-- whether it be monetary donations, prayers of discernment or safe travels, or assurance when I frantically called you in a state of complete anxiety that this is a response to a call that sometimes I don't want to accept.  This past week has prepared me for the black and white of traveling to a foreign country, but even more it's readied me to completely approach this experience with eyes wide open and vulnerable to the divine grace of sharing with a people common only by the love of God.

Now let's just make sure I don't have to sit next to a puker on the plane, and I'll be golden.

In the far too often copied yet ridiculously appropriate words of our friend SC, ONWARD!

Ahhh!!!
I miss you already and I hope you are having a GREAT time! Nothing can top our summer study abroad to the UK with the struggling Comm. Dis. girls, but this may be a close one for you!

And yes, I joined this travel blog thing so that I can comment on your journal entries. I guess I could blog about my travels to the boonies in northern Michigan.

Don't get sick! Have fun!
