On Sunday Sept. 5th our last day before classes started, all the students are taken on a day trip to Todi in Umbria to celebrate the beginning of the semester abroad. We left bright and early and headed to the Medevil hill town. It was about a 2 hour trip, and getting to the Hill top town in the Big buses was quite an experience! A few people started to experience some motion sickness but once we all got off the buses and started to tour around the town the feeling wore off. To reach Todi we had to treck it up the trail path but once we got to the top huffing and puffing the hike was worth it! Todi offered a spectacular view of the nieghboring towns below. The small streets in the town lead you to a few churches and many places to grab an espresso or croissant. This looked like the Italy I always saw on TV or in movies with the small streets and quaint shops. We toured around the town for a few hours grabbed some espresso and a small treat. We went into two of the churches one had a large fresco painting of The Last Judgement with beautiful stained glass windows. The other church had a choir singing as we entered and viewed the gorgeous architecture. As we walked back through the heart of the town to get to the buses the church bells began to ring. It was a great way to end out visit to Todi.
As we left Todi we made our way to the last stop, Titignano, Umbria. We traveled our way back down through the winding hills of Todi and back up more winding hill to Titignano. Here we explored the Medievil Castle and the surrounding area. The view was again amazing! We all gathered in the Castle and had a 12 course meal consisting of risotto, venison, potatoes, pasta, Tirimisu and many other dishes. After the meal we all ventured back to the vans with full bellies and aching feet. The day was unforgettable and allowed us all as a class to get to know one another a little better!
