On Thursday I thought it was time for some more high speed activity so I headed to the Skyline Skyrides. There is a gondola ride to the top of a hill overlooking Rotorua Lake from where you can go hurtling down a luge halfway down and then a chairlift back up to do it all again. The luge is a concrete track which you go down on a three wheel cart (a little like a sledge on wheels - great fun!). I did chicken out of the other thrill ride there which was a sky swing (watched too many people on it and it look far too scary!).
After that I went on a simulator ride which took me through some of the scenery in New Zealand I've missed and then I went on to Waimangu Valley which is another geo-thermal area. In the 19th century this area had what was classed as (one of the many) 8th wonder of the world - pink and white volcanic terraces. These were completely destroyed by a huge volcano in 1886 and only a lake remains.
I then headed east to Whakatane on the east coast for the night.
