I booked myself onto a day trip for Saturday around the Kampot area, visiting salt fields (very interesting as I'd had no idea how salt was produced), caves, rice fields, a pepper plantation (Kampot is famous for it's black pepper), on to Rabbit Island for a relaxing afternoon on the beach finishing up in the fishing village of Kep for fresh crab. A really great day made all the better by a fantastic local guide (Darin) and the two other guys on the trip, Ricky and Jamie from Cumbria, who are 2 months into a year long backbacking trip - lucky things! They were also staying in Pepper Guesthouse so I spent the rest of the evening hanging out with them. They were also booked onto the same bus to Phnom Penh as me the following day, plus they were able to recommend a good guesthouse there. One of the great things about travelling on your own is that it is really easy to meet people along the way.
