I hope this entry finds you all happy healthy and ready to take on another new year.  It was a little unusual to say the least for us last night.  This is the first New Year's Eve in a long time that we haven't spent our evening with the neighbours.  I guess take out Chinese, games, and drinks will have to wait for next year.  We did miss everyone a bit last night but the adventure is at hand and we will get by without all the "usual" things for a while.

As it was our evening was pretty tame.  We whipped up some pasta, with fresh shrimp, had some chips and salsa and a couple glasses of Fresca.  Whoot Whoo!!!  Wild and Crazy.  The boys (me being one  of them) over did it in the pool and surf during the day and were ready for bed at about 9:00 PM.  Michelle managed to keep us up until about 10:30, but there was no way I was going to make it to midnight.  So with sounds of the local bar playing salsa music and of course the ever present sound of the rain forest, it was off to sleep at about 10:45.

On that note the jungle here amazes me.  During the day it is full of the sounds of so many different birds, but at night it really comes alive.  I don't know if it is the bugs, the frogs, or what but it really is amazing the cacophony of sounds it makes when the sun goes down.  It is kind of soothing to sleep to but I find myself quite often waking up in the night wondering what creature is making that noise.

We found out this evening why this is called a rainforest.  It came down like it was a monsoon for a few hours (supper on the deck was not stopped but it was hard to talk over the sound of the rain).  The rain brought out a few more frogs too and Caleb was able to catch a couple on our upper deck after supper.

Michelle and I did wake up at midnight to the booming of the local fireworks display.  We could just barely see it from our upper deck, so after a quick kiss on the balcony and a happy new year to my wife it was back to bed and the sound of the jungle.

Again, I hope you all had a fabulous one without us.  :)
