I can't believe we are actually here. The adventure has begun. Five years ago when Michelle and I decided to do this it seemed so far off and not real. Now here we are!!! It has all begun!!! I really could not believe the amount of last minute "stuff" we had to do in the week leading up to today. From changing our insurance, to un-locking our cell phones, to getting hair cuts for the boys, to cleaning out the house for our renter there has been an amazing amount of "things to do" on our "to do lists". But after some pretty stressful days, and a couple of those 3:30 to 4:00 AM wake-ups in a cold sweat because we have so much to do, we have made it. If we forgot anything, or didn't get it done, I guess it isn't going to get done now
So nothing too exciting in our adventure so far, just another early wake-up at the Calgary Airport Hotel (actually, not really a wake-up. That would mean I actually got to sleep. There was some snoring going on in our room last night so I don't think I actually slept. We are in the Dallas / Fortworth Airport right now awaiting our flight to San Jose, Costa Rica. Nice air port. We had lunch, took the tram ride around the air port, and had some races up and down the elevators. Aiden is trying to get me to play tag with him right now. I guess I'll get up and run around for a bit here.
Anyway, I thought that we should all jump in on this Blog entry and answer a couple questions. What are you looking forward to most on our adventure? And what do you think you will miss most?
For me, I think I am looking most forward to seeing all the cool animals we will see around the world that may not be around for ever. I really want to feed a baby orang-utan in Borneo. I think that would be mind boggling. Also, we may get a chance to snorkel with whale sharks in Australia. That's what I'm looking forward to most.
I think I am going to miss Shaley the most. I'm getting a little teary right now thinking about her. She's getting old and you never know...I'm sure Grandpa will look after good for us and she'll get lots of nice walks. I think I will also miss coaching basketball too.

Ummm...flying on the airplanes. Moving away from the cold and seeing all the animals and stuff that we will see. Oh and not having to go to school.
What I'm going to miss most is not seeing my friends and I'll miss going to sleep watching Penny and Nim. (Caleb's Crested Gecko's) Maybe in Costa Rica he can fall asleep watching wild geckos.

Going on the big Quantas Airplane - the "Spirit of Australia". Why? Because it has two levels, on on top and one on the bottom and it probably has a t.v. on each seat. I'm not looking forward to the next 4 hour flight though. Going into the jungles in Costa Rica and Borneo because a lot of my favorite animals live in the rain forest.
I think I will miss my friends, my house and my pets most.
One of the things I am looking forward to most are going to the Galapagos Islands. I really want to see and photograph the wildlife there! I do hope I don't get sea sick though. Caleb and I have already experienced that for a short time last summer in Hawaii! I am also looking forward to meeting people from other cultures and giving the boys the insight of how other people live around the world.
I miss not going cross-country skiing this year. I was hoping to get out at least once before we left, but hockey took precedence. Of course I will miss all our wonderful friends and pets and even my students and work a little bit! Our home has never been cleaner as it was when we left (thanks Cynthia!). I'm sure I will even miss the simple act of being at home.
