So on our 2nd day in Sendai we decided to get up early and take the train to Matsushima which is said to be one of the 3 great sights in Japan. It is a town but essentially the great sight is a serious of rock islands in the bay/ocean surrounding the area.
We had our complimentary breakfast which was Japanese onigiri in a few different styles then we headed to the train station. We took the train to a town a few stops before Matsushima so that we do a boat cruise that would take us there and see the sights.
It was really hot and sunny but everything out on the water looked hazy. It looked nothing like the photos I had seen of it, no crystal clear water just greenish dark blue. Very disappointing actually. I still thought it was fun and nice to be out on the water but I could tell Brittany and Anna were a little mad that we spent the money and didn't get what we thought we would.
Once we arrived in Matsushima there was a shrine that over looked the water that we went to and bought some souvenirs I bought a very nice fan that was one of a kind so I was very happy about that. Sadly though our hotel made us pay for our rooms in advance which took almost all my cash on hand the day before and I ran out in Matsushima before I could find another ATM so I couldn't get any other souvenirs since no one took credit cards. Although most of the souvenirs are food anyway and I have decided I need to stop buying that crap.
We also found an old zen Buddhist temple that was heavily wooded in tall cedar trees, very pretty and mysterious looking. At this temple they buried the dead in caves that they carved out of the rock walls in the area, I have pictures to be loaded soon.
We stayed until after lunch time and then decided to head back to Sendai for lunch and more shopping plus I needed an atm and I kind of knew where one was back in Sendai if we could find it.
Once we got back to Sendai we tried to eat at a place that had "Spanish" food but they wouldn't let us come in and said there was standing room only when we could see open seats, this happens alot in Sendai (and most of Japan) I am told so we sadly just moved on to a Chinese restaurant. It was really good Chinese food, I had a Cashew Chicken and the owners spoke better english then most Japanese since they were really Chinese.
Just as we were finishing an older man came in and sat at the table next to us, he started talking to Anna about Michael Jackson and then made a comment about my outfit. I was wearing a sundress that god forbid showed what little bit of cleavage I have and he said it was too dangerous and that I should cover up!
Here is one way Japan is super ass backwards, they find it ok for girls to wear skirts and shorts that are sooo short you can see their butts and occasionally genitalia ( if you are stuck below them on an escalator, this has happened to me!) hanging out but if you can see the tiniest bit of a woman's chest they freak out and gawk at you as though you have the plague or shake their heads at you and whisper to their friends. I'm sorry but it was 90+ degrees that day I am not wearing a sweater over the top of my sundress just to keep an old perv from making comments.
Anyway after dinner we shopped a bit more then headed back to the hotel to regroup before we decided to go out to some clubs for the night.
