Port Blair, Andaman Islands, India -  My flight from Chennai to Port Blair was delayed by five hours!! I had already been in the airport for ten hours, so I guess another five wouldn't matter! It turns out my flight was delayed while India tested a long range missile capable to carry a nuclear payload! Great! It left the atmosphere and hit a target 5000kms away! They were supposed to undertake the test the evening before but due to bad weather it delayed my flight! Oh man!

Finally, in my stinky state, half asleep, I board my plane and even though I have a window seat, I sleep the full two hours to Port Blair.

I depart the airport and the Indian Ocean heat hits me!! Ouch! This is hot!

Upon entering the Islands, one requires a permit. This is free and I am the only passenger requiring one. It's important to keep this document safe while travelling around the Islands and it allows you up to 30 days entry.

I jump in a old style car and head to a cheap hostel. The room is basic and fairly clean but subjected to frequent power cuts, not just the guesthouse but the entire city!

I had only one night in Port Blair. I found a delicious cafe that cooked me a fish curry with nan bread and plain rice! Perfection. I slept well and got up early next day on my birthday to catch a boat to Havelock Island. My plan was to arrive on Havelock the night before my birthday, but a rocket fired into the atmosphere meant I missed the last boat.

Port Blair is a busy hub on the Andaman Islands. It is the capital of the Island and has a busy market and a bustling street full of vendors, Tuk Tuks and bicycles.

It is easy living, and maybe just an easy insight into life in India, but I am prepared for more mayhem in the future.

Next stop, Havelock Island for my brithday treat.
