Day 87 April 1 continued - The bus trip was long. It took two hours to cross the border. We had to unload our luggage into a room where some sniffer dog was pretty high on something! Then queued for the exit stamp, walked through a rough town to the entry for Costa Rica while our bags moved with the bus then get the bags out again so Costa Rica could check how many guns I bought in the town! Such a waste of time. I did however get chatting to a nice British girl, just finished her studies and her and her friend travelled through East Africa and some of South America and are going home soon.

On the bus we were given two meals, one tasted just like the Pilchard Pie my mum used to make me as a kid. Pretty simple, Pilchards line the bottom, mash on top, chuck in the oven, I think I used to then mix it with a tin of baked beans! I love my mums cooking and well, when you read this mum, when I'm down in the summer, as well as a treacle pudding, a pilchard pie as well please, ahem, not forgetting Andy making a curry, but try to hold the cookies, I'll go for some grapes and fruit! No I'm serious, no cookies!

When the bus finally arrive in Costa Rica it's 2am Panama time which turned out to be 1am Costa Rica time. I spent ten minutes haggling with taxi drivers. Instead of getting annoyed, I did it with a smile on my face, they were quoting me crazy prices and eventually one of them backed down and drove me to my hostel. He tried to initially claim my hostel was closed at night!! Have you ever heard of a hostel closing at night, typically there are drunk gringos to let in. We park outside the hostel and he asks for more money, but he can go shove it! Hostel had some guard outside and within a few minutes I'm in a bunk bed drifting off to sleep, well while one USA guy is playing a trumpet with his ass and some other guy is snoring!

Day 88 April 2 - After the long bus and getting in late, for some reason I'm up early but have free wifi to watch text updates on the cricket world cup and Man Utd at West Ham. Both very exciting games, it's more fun to read the texts that are sent in and of course the comments from Geoff Boycott! I thinking of staying just one day in this capital and get up early next day for a bus to Montezuma and hang by a beach for two days.

I leave the hostel around 10am, it's about a fifteen minute walk into the city centre but there are very few road signs. It would be easier with signs but that is the challenge of living here apparently taxi drivers know places that are near famous areas of town or some sort of landmark.

For me, the city is small and being a Saturday, extremely busy. I head first to the bus stop, try to work out where it is, what time the bus goes to Montezuma and if I can get a ticket. There are about 5 bus stops in the same area, I find mine and get the time but no tickets to buy, apparently it's a first come free for all! The area is packed with people, taxis are beeping at you every few seconds, I'm being pushed and bumped into and trying to avoid being run over.

Near the bus station I see a nice park but again, it's packed full, getting my camera out is a bit risky but I've got my trainers on for a run! I spent the next hour or two walking up and down different streets, getting a feel for the place and to be honest, I didn't get a good feel, not sure why but I didn't.

Around lunch time I head to the crazy Mercado Central and find some chicken, I ended up ordering far too much and feeling pretty sick with it as well! Back at the hostel, I relax some but I am in a hostel with some older USA dude from Houston who seemed on something. I'd love to pick his brains about Houston, but he is typically a person I would never talk to. He tells me about getting recently conned. He met a very pretty local at a club, she fell for him and he moved in, then paid for rent, bills, a kids birthday party all the while he's living there he rarely sees her then she kicks him out.......blah blah blah. He had a habit of popping in and out the dorm, so I pop out to update my blog.

When I'm finished, I'm the last one to leave as the Internet cafe is closing. I walk back towards town, after 3 or 4 minutes I go to take a picture and suddenly remember I forgot to pull my camera card out of the PC. Some running and swearing later, I see the two Internet cafe owners walking out of a shop and about to get in their car. The guy took it from the cafe as they were closed till Monday!! I'm very thankful. It's times like this when I think about the kind of luck I have. One more minute later, I'd have lost that card and would have waited around in San Jose till Monday. I'm not sure why these examples of good fortune happen but I try to go with the flow.

I walk into the park I was about to take a picture in and continue through the park into town. I find myself some dinner but because of my early start tomorrow (5am) and there being very few people in the hostel, I know I'm not going out so head back to the hostel. My bag is kind of packed as I sleep in my clothes. Being the considerate person I am, I don't want to wake everyone by getting dressed, packing my bag etc.

Day 89 April 3 - I wake early. It's what I seem to be doing everyday at the moment! Of course, I wake everyone when I realised I had not emptied my valuables locker. Oh well. Reception booked me a taxi and I was at the bus terminal 50 minutes before the bus left, better be early than my usual on time lateness. Seeing as it was also mothers day, I rang the little lady! Twice home phone was engaged to her eldest so a quick ring of the mobile and it's great to hear her voice and catch up for a few minutes.

There are a few gringos on the bus, it arrives on time, I get two seats to myself and we drive towards Montezuma.
