Extremely touristy city but I liked it. Maybe because at the end we did see the sea again and could enjoy the beach. The port is dirty but beautiful and interesting.

Varna is the largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, third-largest in Bulgaria after Sofia and Plovdiv, and 78th-largest in the European Union, with a population of 357,281.

Varna, commonly referred to as the "marine capital of Bulgaria," is a primary tourist destination, major seaport and the headquarters of the Bulgarian Navy and merchant marine. The capital of Varna Province, it is also the centre of Bulgaria's North-Eastern planning region.

The city was temporarily renamed Stalin after the Soviet leader from 1949 to 1956.
