Today we pulled anchor on WMD and set our sails for Vanuatu. It was sad to say bye to Musket Cove but there is more adventure to be had in the South Pacific. I had the fun job of sitting on the bow for an hour being lookout for reefs and markers.
I am a little nervous with my first open water passage but I know I will learn a lot. Today is the start of our three hour rotating shifts.
We were able to motor on our jerry rigged engine for about 2 hours before we got a little wind.
After sunset we forgot to bring in our fishing line and it caught. What we caught wasn't big and Kim shined the flash light on what we thought was a fish and yelled it was a squid and it was squirting ink everywhere. I quickly took cover in the cockpit to protect myself from the ink. Greg continued to reel in the squid. It was the fun excitement for the night and the squid contributed to our lunch the next day.
It was weird how the squid was orange at first and quickly faded to clear. I don't know if that is a defense mechanism or what happens when it dies.
Happy Birthday from the South Pacific Mom; Cheers to 60 years and many more! I love you :)
