We are in Austin, Texas now staying at Lone Star RV just as we were a few years ago. Last time we were in Austin we had big plans to go downtown to see the sites including the Capitol, but those plans were foiled when there were a large number of birds found dead in the vicinity of the Capitol building. I think this was during the time that the bird virus first made its appearance and the city must have been alarmed by the dead birds.....the city was shut down and we were unable to go downtown. So were came back to give it another try.

We got to the museum about 10 AM and were just getting started on our tour (along with a least 1000 school kids) when the building alarm went off and everyone was told to exit the building and go across the street to wait for further instructions....Doug and I just looked at one another and smiled. Were we going to be doomed again? No worries, we were allowed back in after about 15 minutes. Some mechanical malfunction....

The Museum is great! Texas has a long and varied history. From the story of the Native Peoples who lived in Texas at least 11,000 years before Europeans arrived ...to the story of how the discovery of oil changed Texas, the museum tells the story of Texas.
