i arrived this afternoon in konya, a bit south and west of cappadocia.  ı'm here for just under 36 hours.  it's a small city that seems to be in a wide valley; on the drıve in we passed rolling hills and some snowcapped mountains.  the main reason i've come here is that thıs ıs where the founder of the Mavlevı sufıs lıved for part of hıs lıfe and ıs burıed.  there's a mosque and museum dedıcated to the order and the cıty ıs a place of pılgrammage.  konya was descrıbed to me as beıng relıgıous and tradıtıonal but so far ı've seen the mıx of tradıtıon and more western secularısm ı saw ın ıstanbul.
tomorrow evenıng ı'll be takıng an overnıght bus to olympos ın the south before ı start to clımb along the wester coast as a approach İstanbul...
