The mood was rather electric today. The fireworks started during the day and didn't stop until early the next morning. The noise was deafening at times since many business were launching their own fireworks not too high into the sky. I started off walking south outside the inner city and enjoyed viewing all of the bursts coming from the distant sky scrapers. Sometimes a person would light their own fire cracker next to where you're standing. One man thought it would be a good idea to set it off in the middle of a busy bus stop much to the surprise of those waiting in line.

By the time night fell there were many Chinese people walking the streets and throwing parties. After some drinks the countdown started and heaps of locals ran out of their homes and businesses and set off innumerable amounts of fireworks on the street accompanied by an enormous display in the sky which lasted for hours. I joined with a group of friends and walked around the city taking it all in. Snow fights were plenty with the usual fun activity of putting ice down a friend's back.

I hope you all enjoy the year of the tiger. The story goes that a fox outsmarted both a lion and a tiger to claim dominance over the animal kingdom. The moral is that cunning will win over courage. If you were born in the year of the tiger you should wear red to protect from bad luck since this year is not predicted to be a good one for you (sorry not my idea it's what everyone here is saying). Have a good one!
