I'm not a good enough writer to actually explain how amazing the view was, and these pictures just don't do it justice either. But having been on the Great Wall of China, I would say it was just as incredible experience. This is one place I would definitely recommend going to if and of you ever get the chance.
After our tour of the ruins, six of our nine took the Initpunku trail up to a beautiful clearing on the Machu Picchu mountain, which is what the city itself was named after. In Cechuan, inti means sun and punku means gate, so we made a strenuous 45 min hike to the Sun Gate. The view from there was the most incredible view of the day. While up there, we had a mini devo and sand lots of songs and read our favorite verses aloud. There's something about having a devo on a mountain that is truly amazing.
Our singing actually made us some new friends! A Brazilian named Daniel came down to us to compliment our singing and talk to us for a while. He actually lived in Gatlinburg for a while and had been to Nashville many times with his band. He was a cool dude. And all the girls were gaga over him. Probably because of his accent or lack of shirt.
After stealing a piece of the city for myself and some really sad goodbyes to a beautiful view, we traveled back to the city to eat at a pizzeria for Andrea's birthday. How awesome of a birthday is that?! Turning 22 on top of Machu Picchu. Lucky dog. It was an incredible day for all of us. I'll remember it for the rest of my life.
Lots of pictures today. Like I said before, the pictures don't even begin to show how beautiful the view was, but it's all you guys are able to see so it'll have to do! In the descriptions of the pictures, I've added information we received while on the tour, so go read about all the cool things we saw. We fly home tomorrow after a quick tour of the city of Cusco. Thanks for keeping up with me y'all! You've been awesome. Follow me on more of my travel adventures in the future. Adios amigos!
